How to get involved in our School
How to get involved
- Weekly Newsletters
Each Friday we send out a newsletter via each child. This is a very important way of keeping in touch with what is going on at school. At the beginning of each term we publish all the important dates so this is an important one to keep. Newsletters are numbered so that you can make sure that you haven't missed one.
- Become a parent helper
We rely heavily on the support of parents to encourage children in their approach to school and to learning and, as mentioned before, parental help is needed both at home and at school.
Changes in the curriculum over the past year or two have changed the manner in which parental help is required in school though we still need help in many ways.
Parents who help out in school on a regular basis will not normally work in the classes their own children are in. (This does not apply to educational visits. You may well be asked by your child's class teacher to help on a trip if you can.)
Every adult helper, other than for visits, will be asked to apply for a certificate from the Criminal Record Bureau before helping in school.
- Become a Friend
We have a very active Friends' Association at St. Matthias and Dr. Bell's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, which, over the years, has raised many thousands of pounds. The money raised has helped the school buy a range of expensive resources which otherwise would not be available for your children to use. LEA funding is adequate for the provision of all essential equipment, but the activities of the Friends' Association has allowed us to provide the "icing on the cake". Their contribution includes such things as outdoor play equipment in the Key Stage 1 playground, projector and interactive pad in Key Stage 2. Many other items have been provided along the way and all for the benefit of your children.
The Association is also noted for organising non-profit making social events for both children and adults which help to engender a greater sense of community amongst those associated with St. Matthias and Dr. Bell's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.
The Friends' Association is always ready to welcome new members, so if you are interested in playing an active role in the Association, please do not hesitate to contact the Chairperson, (Jules Cox), or visit their web site @ www.friendsofschool.blogspot.com
